Jessie Ware is a busy lady. Not only has she been working hard on her new album Tough Love (released earlier in October), promoting the record and is latest single and she still found time to plan her wedding and get married! She tells the AU about working on Tough Love, working with Ed Sheeran and her impressions of Australia following some stand out appearances at the 2013 Laneway Festival.
Hello Jessie! Thanks so much for your time and congratulations on your wedding! How did everything go, how does it feel to be married?!
Thank you! Went really well, thanks. No real hiccups, apart from being told we weren't allowed to play music on the day (we sorted it, there was plenty of music, my husband even got on the decks!). Feels cool calling him my husband.
I cannot believe you have managed to plan both a wedding and an album at the same time, how on earth did you do it?
It was far more simple than having only the album to focus on. I love work and I work hard, and so the wedding became a fun thing to plan whilst doing the nitty gritty of promoting an album. I would highly recommend it to a highly strung person!
Well, we are incredibly excited for Tough Love to drop in October. Being your second album, what did you want to do differently this time around?
I wanted to show a growth, a development, but not depart from what I set up with Devotion. I hope we achieved that.
Devotion was such a huge success, did that at all have any influence on your mindset working in the studio for the new album?
I definitely thought about what my fans had enjoyed from the first record, but I did want to take more risks, vocally and melodically, hoping my fans would move with me!
Your new single, "Say You Love Me", is stunning, what is the story behind this one?
I wrote it with Ed Sheeran in NY in April, it was the shortest session ever and it was one of the most inspiring. The song kind of wrote itself, really special moment in my career to learn off Ed.
What was it like to work with Ed Sheeran? Not only does he seem like an absolute darling, but he is such a musical whizz. What was the best advice he gave you?
It was wonderful. He is exactly how everyone describes him. Whatta guy! We had a great time together and we are mates now. I think his work ethic is the biggest form of advice. Makes you wanna work just as hard.
You were one of the standouts here at Laneway Festival in 2013 and there was so much love for you across pretty much every music blog and website. What was the best part about your trip down under last year? Did you get to be much of a tourist?
I loved Australia! I had never been that interested in coming (apologies) and then when I was there, I was bowled over by the people, the food, oh man the food was amazing and the wine and the sun... Everyone's lovely and healthy and happy and I just want to come back. I need to sell some albums out there first.
Finally, when can we expect you to grace out shores again?
Buy the record, spread the word and I will be back there as soon as you want me.
